London Heathrow Airport operations suspended due to fire and power outage

21 March 2025

A fire at an electrical substation near the London Heathrow Airport (LHR) is significantly disrupting the airport's operations. The fire has resulted in a complete power failure at Terminal 2, Terminal 4, and the surrounding area, including more than 5000 homes.

As the fire continues burning, various LHR operations teams are working closely with the relevant authorities, including the London Fire Brigade, to bring the situation under control. LHR will be closed today (Friday, 21 March 2025).

Impact on air freight:

  • LHR, Europe's busiest airport, has been forced to suspend operations for the day, with significant disruptions expected to continue.
  • More than 1350 flights are expected to be affected today. Given the scale of the disruption, the impact could stretch far beyond Heathrow and affect flights on a much wider network.
  • The implications of the fire and power failure will have a ripple effect, potentially leading to flight delays and cancellations across the globe.

We will provide regular updates as the situation evolves and work to minimise the disruption for all affected cargo.
